PostSubject: Dr Hairul Ahmad...   25/07/08, 10:45 am

:) Even though i have not had the sleeve yet i have opted to go with Dr Ahmad.. Have spoken to alot of people whom have had him and have had nothing but good things said about him..Dr Ahmad works out of SJOG Murdoch and his is a honest, no nonsense doctor who tells is like it is.. Was intending on having lapband until I went and saw Dr Ahmad he was so forthcoming and straight forward with the information that he gave that on leaving my mum and I had no doubt that I had made the right choice of surgeon... But then in saying this I have heard nothing but great things about Dr Leon Cohen, Dr Jon Armstrong and a host of others that it made the choice of surgeons a had but very personal desicion....

Hope everyone is well,
Donna-lee :flower:

Hairul Ahmad is my hero, I have a whole new life due in major part to him. I am sure we all think of our doctors with admiration for helping us with this transformation, but I cannot fault either his honesty, compassion or follow up care. Voted No 1 in my books. I must also add that his wife, Lorrinda is his post care assistant (qualified nurse), you could not ask to meet a nicer lady, she makes you feel like a life long friend and is extremely helpful. All in all a well rounded team when you add in Nikki the dietician and Simon the sports/fitness guru.

hi everyone

i have the tube down my gullet scheduled with dr ahmad on October 30 2008 and my first appoinment with nikki the dietician the day before.

i was wondering how soon after the tube op most patients of dr ahmad had the sleeve op?

also, are any of you with sgio health? i know dr ahmad has no gap, but i was wondering about the anaesthitist?

my gp also put me on a care plan which supposedly will take care of the external therapists like the dietician and sports physiologist.

i'd appreciate any feedback from dr ahmad's previous patients.

hi kalgirl,

welcome to the world of the sleeved and soon to be sleeved. Dr Ahmad is the best and I had nothing to pay from him at all, your lucky me gp wouldnt give me care plan so all i have to pay for my dietitan etc (what my insurance doesnt. so far thats only cost me about $80). As with the anaesthitist I have to pay $250 (all over is covered) and then I have recieved a bill for my ct scan (but havent claimed that yet ) so wont be able to tell you how much out of pocket that will be. But i guess all up maybe about $500 total out of pocket, and with what the op costs alone I can handle that.

regarding care plan I didnt have to see Simon or anyone else, I had to have a sleep aponea(spelling) done, and a death in the family postponed my surgery...

all the best
Donna-lee

thanks for the answer shadowmumma

even tho dr ahmad said he had no gap, and everything else should be covered, i guess i was
still apprehensive about a "hidden cost" sneaking in somewhere!

after reading about other surgeons' costs, i am feeling that we are a little bit blessed with dr ahmad!

i'm getting rooly rooly EXCITED!

and it's so comforting to know i have heaps of support here at this site!

Anaesthetists cost vary by Anaesthetist, some even have no gap just like your doctor. It would depend which Anaesthetist is scheduled to work the day of your Surgery. You will find out who that is when you are given an operation date, and then you can call their office to find out what gap charges if any are due.

hope that helps.

Peter.

i am newly sleeved, and basking in the warm lovely feeling of being chopped by mr ahmad.

for an indepth, blow by blow account of my time with mr ahmad, including thoughts, feelings, fears and costs,

I was going to start a new topic, but may as well add this here (just hoping that people see it).

Once you saw Mr Ahmad for the second time (after you had seen all the other people) how long did it take you to get a surgery date, did he give you one at the second appointment?
And how far away was that surgery date?

The reason I am asking is that I am seeing him again on December 1st, and I have been hoping and praying to be able to get a December surgery date, and I have just found out that he is still working in mid-December. So did what I am really asking is did you guys see him, and then get a surgery date for a couple weeks later?

Me too (and Alana) our surgery date was set at our second appointment, it was 3 weeks away at that time. I believe Hairuls last day for 2008 is December 19th.

Hi,

As said before I am trying to save up to have getting sleeve in June. Does anyone know how much is the out of pocket expense with Dr Hairul Ahmad?
My insurance won't kick in until December, and I can't wait that long to get sleeve, so I am going to have to save up for it. I heard from someone before it was like $8000 before but does anyone know if the price has increased for 2009?

Thank You,

Yoolz

snow
as i write, my total surgery/hospital/dietician/sports/consult dr etc expenses has been about $500.

my diary entries contain a breakdown of costs for mr ahmad and his team as they came in.
however, these costs are for a fully insured private health patient.
ring nicole, ahmads receptionist and just ask! she's very helpful and patient!

my diary outlines ways in which i minimised expenses by accessing a healthcare plan and PATS.
the healthcare plan alone saved me over a $1000.

in early january i put in the last of my claims to my health insurance provider (sgio) for murdoch radiology and pathology,
and i am not quite sure exactly how much i may be out of pocket for these 2 services, if at all.

the fact that invoices havent chased me around the country while i have been on holiday leads me
to believe that both are fully covered.

i'll have to call sgio and get an update soon, but, damnit, it's so hard to put the strawberry daiquiri down
and re-enter the real world!

Thank You Kalgirl,

I have my appointment with Dr Hairul on 16 March 2009. I'll ask him all in the appointment. Do you think maybe I should ask for an earlier appointment? He's super duper busy though

well snow, there's no harm in asking, and we all understand your keeness!!

best advice? nicole is the keeper of the gate. she's so kind when faced with excited sleevers-to-be.
if you can make yourself available for any cancellations that come up...you're in with a chance!

best of luck!

Has anyone paid privately or through superannuation (no Health Insurance) with Hairul in the last few months? I would imagine that all of the costs have gone up since I first saw him.

I have a new follow up appointment with him on Monday...looks like I maybe able to withdraw money from hubby's unrestricted non-preserved superannuation which takes ten days, so won't have to wait for APRA approval.

I have also recently become aware that he is no longer practicing, and I have also heard that the patients he is still seeing are not any closer to getting surgery dates than they were at the beginning of the year.

The MOTH (Bruce) saw him at the end of May when he said he was going to Malaysia for 2 weeks and then to a conference in Brissie for a week and said he woul operate on Bruce at end of June. Bruce rang Nicole this last week and sort of demanded an operation date or he was changing Doctors. Nicole said she would talk to Dr Ahmad on Monday (15th)and let him know.
After reading these posts to Bruce - he is not a happy as you can imagine - he has been waiting and been mucked around since February.
I will let you all know the outcome on Monday night - I somehow think he will be changing Surgeons.
Thanks for the info girls.

Yeah I heard this from my GP and he recommend me to see Dr Stephen WATSON who is practicing in Murdoch as well.
But there's an out of pocket expense for Dr Watson for around $2000.

I will probably make an appointment to see Dr Watson ^^

I may be wrong, but I thought that Dr Watson only did bands?
Like I said I may have completely made that up.

We have made the decision and Bruce is changing Surgeons to either Dr Epari or Dr Thomas at Murdoch. Just sick of being mucked around and nothing concrete. So we are happy campers tonight and feel so relieved. Toni (Sr Thomas's secretary) rang Bruce back and is transferring all his records and he will be getting an appt asap and the surgery done really quickly. So we are both so happy tonight yah!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for those who helped us with this decision - as you can see we are so happy - you are legends.
hugs

Great news Jillybean! Hope Bruce gets pushed straight to the front of the queue. You will have to take a romantic honeymoon somewhere soon- you should be able to with all the money your household will be saving on food.
