I was just wondering if the sleeve makes everyones cholesterol go down. I already have low levels (2.8 even after eatting hot chips etc...) and I the Dr has already got me in a few times when my bloods come back.

Thanks for that Jo.

It is so frustrating I can't take the medication - and my diet is pretty good now (as you can imagine) and it is still high.

I will try the psyllium for sure.

Hi Caz,
I haven't had surgery yet but I have pretty high cholesterol and take 40mg of Lipitor a day. I'm hoping it will come down after surgery but genetics does play a part here.

Something I did find was Psyllium Husk, when I was on yet another one of those protein shake diets I added a tablespoon of it to my shakes. It did have a bit of a thickening effect so I'm not sure how much you would be able to tolerate.

Here's a wiki reference for you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psyllium

See how you go.

Cheers Jo

my cholesterol went up as well it was very strange. I went to the pro active and it came down. I was using very little fat when it went up so even weirder. Only thught there was my gallbladder came out at the same time and a LOT of gallstones are made of cholesterol. So not making any more nasty stones might be an answer to some degree. But then my blood pressure never impoved after nearly 50kg coming off yet another odd thing that nobody could explain. They had expected it to drop dramaticly.

I was planning to get some Flora or similar today - thanks Bushgirl. The only thing is that I don't eat bread hardly ever any more so don't eat a spread either. I'll make up some more salmon pate with it - that could work! I haven't had any for a while.

I shall definitely put my research skills to work and will share anything I find out!

This is by no means scientific as I'm not a dr, but have you tried using flora pro active marg as a source of good fats? You can get regular, light or extra light ( extra light doesnt melt on toast- has mostly water content) but has good plant sterols... it used to come with a bit of cardboard around it to tell you to eat like 25gms a day for max benefit... not sure of details... let me get it from the fridge now-

Light version with 50% less fat recommends 25 gm per day. There is also Logicol and some soy nuttelex one as well... my mum tried these with her meds and 6 months later was able to go down in dose. also the beta glucan in oats can help as well...

anyhooo (I dont like the marg myself, but I thought Id offer anyway) Hope it gives you another option to try... BGxx

Oatbran is a natural remedy for lowering cholesterol Caz. The amount you would probably have to consume may be out of the question though.

I used to take Lipitor but stopped after my surgery to see if I could get the old levels down with diet. I'm not holding out much hope though as mine seems to be familial and only medication lowers it. I am planning on having a set of bloods done in another month or so to see where I'm at.

If you do learn of any natural and easy method I'll be really interested to hear. One less drug to take is always welcome. Put those legendary research skills to good use.

Hugs,

I just had my post-operation blood test (I know - slack - only took me 4 months to get around to it!)

I was hoping my cholesterol may have gone down due to my vastly improved diet and loss of weight, but it has only gone from 6.7 to 6.6. I was really disappointed as the two cholesterol medications I have already tried both gave me nasty side effects (joint pain for one and a foggy brain for the other).

My doctor said there is something else I can try, but I was wondering if any of you have had the same problem, or any medically inclined people know natural ways of getting it down. I'd hate to be healthy and slim and have clogged arteries!
