| Hey Lissyd,Well, it sounds like you are on the right track with everything, so just ignore my advice! I really hope your surgeon can help. I had to laugh when you imagined your body saying, "Oh, here we go again." So many of us can relate to that! All the best with your surgeon and dietitian. I'll be watching your progress, and I'm sure you'll blitz it in the long run. MiddleWoman |

| Hi Middlewoman,Carbs are not always high but one particular day when I had All bran for breakfast,2cruskits with philly light cream cheese and avo for lunch, then I think I might of had a small chick schnitzel and veg&small amount of mash potatoe for dinner..so when I added the carbs up on 'MY FITNESSPAL" it was quiet high..I do try very hard with fluids and I would say I would get between 1.5-2ltrs in a day..I have cut out the cereal and I've replaced that with a optifast for the extra protein.I have never been a fan of salad and veg so they're something I wouldn't have in every meal time...I don't know if my metabolism is dead from years of dieting and from losing 54kgs with the lapband then regaining 35kgs ? maybe it's thinking oh shit here we go again lets hold onto all this fat lol...I'm seeing my surgeon next Wednesday so I will ask him what's the go with my body..Thanks for your reply.cheers Melissa |

| Hi Lyssid,
Just a few kindly suggestions and questions after reading your latest posts:
Do not worry about fruit and veg at this early stage. They are too bulky for the amount of nutrients they provide (and not good sources of protein). It sounds all back to front, I know, but fruit and veg will come later. If you are taking your daily multivitamin and some form of fibre, it is OK to forego these things in the short term.
Try not to eat in front of the TV or computer. It is time to re-learn your eating habits (me too!).
You mentioned that your carbs are high - do you know why? Is it because you don't have the time/inclination while busy with the kids? Are you eating what they eat? Carbs should be very low at the moment. There should be barely any room left after you have eaten the right amounts of protein.
If you are a fussy eater, you and your dietitian will need to find the types of protein you can tolerate and enjoy. It really will make your loss quicker.
Also, how is your water intake? I find this a really important part of the process.
You sound very committed and I wish you the very best. This time next year, you will look back and smile at how far you've come!

| Not at all Kate.
I couldn't sleep last night, so went back and revisited my diary. It doesn't mention how frustrated I was at the slow weight loss, but think i was trying to stay positive, plus knew that a loss is a loss no matter how small.
The 10 week period between weeks 5 through to 10 I lost a total of 5.8 kgs.
I was not one where the weight just fell off. It just dropped off slow and steady.
I just kept at it, followed my dietician guidelines to the letter. I did have great motivation that year, both my sons got married so wanted to look my best.
If you know you are doing everything right, just stick with it.

| I mentioned last week about Janette, Lissyd, she had a lot of weeks at the start (10 I think) where she had no or slow weight loss. She is now 2 years out and has been at goal for quite some time. I've met Janette a few times now and she looks great and I know she won't mind me mentioning her. |

| Hi again ladies..
Mummabear25 you didn't upset me at all! thank you so much for your daily intake, It was good to see the amount you can eat as I think I can fit in more than the average person and I am only 7 weeks out..In saying that I don't sit there eating big meals..just a few time I have kept eating while watching tv and thought "Oh shit I've eaten all that was on my plate" just more than I thought I could fit in with no pain or over fullness feeling..but yeah definitely don't do that all the time..I am seeing my surgeon and dietican on the 14th of dec..I would love to give the Dietican all the foods I eat/like and her give me a plan to go by with all the right amounts of carbs, protein ect..I alway's said I never want to follow another diet but I think I am one that will need to for a little while any way!My problem is I am such a fussy eater so trying to eat what foods I like and keep on track with carbs, protein is very hard...Kate I don't think I will come obsessive with opti..just thought If I go back to the basics and start over again and give my tummy a break because as you have seen and commented that you could eat what I can in a day..so just thought may be I have pushed things a bit to fast..not sure but it can't hurt can it? |

| Lissyd, can understand your frustration, i would definately go and see or speak to your dietican, and maybe write down everything you are eating,
I hope i havent upset you in anyway wasnt my intention, just wanted to share my experience and hope it may of helped you in spme way, for me i guess i was the same expected to loose alot of weight but i think i put that extra pressure on myself, i lost 8kg in the first 6weeks, then i stopped then i started again, but im now nearly 5 months out and ive lost on average 1kg a week. Know its hard but try to see the big picture....in another 4 months that could be another 16kgs....please keep positive and keep us informed:) |

| Lissyd please don't get too obsessed with opti. It is really harsh on your body and what you did pre sleeve has no bearing on how your body is reacting post sleeve. I'm sure she won't mind me mentioning it but go and read Janette's diary. She lost virtually nothing from week 5 post op to about week 15 post op (from memory) but she stuck with it and she is now 2 years out, at goal weight and very very happy with her sleeve. If nothing else ring or email your dietician and talk to him/her, after all that is what they are there for. |

| NoNo you haven't upset me Countrygirl lol just me being emotional...I do take metamucil tablets but yeah only go every 3 days or so...I am going to try and eat every 3 hours or so as I think maybe I am not eating enough and i am stuck in starvation mode..I can only try if that doesn't work I am going back on opti for 2 weeks as I didn't stick to it pre-sleeve and I think I am paying the price now for that.. |

| Oh I'm sorry, I hope I haven't upset you :( I actually only weigh once a month as I get scale obsessed and feel really crappy if I'm not losing heaps! My dietician and surgeon have both said not to focus on the weight loss too much for the first 3-6 months, to just concentrate on feeding your body nutritious foods and looke after yourself and the weight loss will take care of itself. It's almost impossible to fail, you're eating the right foods. Are your bowels moving? I lose almost nothing if I'm not, hence the pureed prunes every day and occasional coloxyl. Hang in there hun |

| I also think I might fall into the 'slow loser' category down the track as I'm already only losing about a kg a week. I'm trying to think of the positives of slow losses though, in particular the better chance my skin has of bouncing back :) A typical day for me goes something like this (almost 5 weeks out)
B: 3/4 cup pureed prunes and no fat yoghurt
MT: piece of fruit eg kiwifruit, banana, watermelon, mango, peach, nectarine
L: 2 cruskits with protein eg low fat cottage cheese (the gherkin one), small tin of tuna, small tin of chicken, ham, smoked salmon etc
AT: sometimes a protein shake if dinner isn't high in protein, or fruit
D: Small serve of whatever the kids are having, or cruskits with protein
S: diet nestle dessert, or chai latte
I have between 800-1000 cals most days, occasionally up to 1100. |

| Thats a great idea LissyD, Ill add my typical (like others depends on what im doing lol)
B; up & go
MT: piece of fruit
L: 1/2 wholemeal wrap, chick, lettuce, cheese, tomatoe, carrot mayo
AT: youghurt 1/2 tub
T: Piece of meat normally chick or steak about 40gms, 1/2cup of vegies, or salad
after tea if im hungry: 1 scoop low fat icecream with 1/2 banana or cup of tea with a bikkie
Thats a typical day but tea is varied of course slow cookers are great, i try to add 1/2 cup of vegies to my plate instead of the rice or pasta.
And breakfast can go from 1 crumpet, 1 poached egg, to 1 piece of toast, my lunches are pretty the same and on my period (tmi lol) i do indulge in some chocolate and chips lol
Good luck:) |

Lizhaynes,I had blood tests about 3 weeks ago and they were all fine..and I take a multi vit&mins tab every day and the Isowhey I have 1 to 2 times a day is full of mulit vit&mins so I'd say I am getting enough..Will go back in a month or 2 and get them done again..Sassymummy I hear a lot of people say they thought they had over eaten but in fact lost weight! can't complain about that hey lol..Slimmer it is an empty feeling isn't it sort of doesn't get worse just sits there till I eat or drink..Lizz I find it hard with the protein as I am not a big meat eater so,only really eat fish in little bits and chicken,so I try and have 2 Isowhey every day with skim milk.. |
