No one answered part 2 of your question.

It does depend on the hospital you are going to. I went to the Mount and you are admitted to your room when you arrive. But others have had to wait in a waiting room till the surgery and only after get taken to your room.

If it concerns you, just call the hospital and ask the admissions nurse what the proceedure is.

Peter.

IAs kalgirl says you will get the special fluids supplied. If you get any in containers like sustagen, resource, fortijuice and don't want them, take them home! You can just take them off the tray and put them in your bag. It is not stealing, you have paid for them in the bed costs which includes meals.

suzi

i took my supradyn in, but they only wanted me on water and hospital derived clear fluids for the first 3 days.
on day 4 i was allowed my supradyn, but only because i asked.
my surgeon doesn't ask that we go on a multivitamin, just the supradyn for awhile.

if you are used to taking a multi vitamin each day, a couple of days off it while your tummy heals will be ok.
you won't want too much in there that isn't absolutely necessary. within a week or 10 days, you can go back to your regular regime no worries.

of course, your surgeon is the man to ask. why not drop him a quick email if you haven't another appointment before your op?

Just getting everything in order for the big day. Checked out the list on what to take to hospital but have a couple of questions hope you can help me out here.
1. Do I take my Berocca, vitamins tablets, sustagen to hospital with me or do they supply them, and for the first couple of days or so do I take liquid multivitamins or normal vitamin tablets.
2. Do they take you to your room before the op or only after.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are going to The Mount Hospital and want to use a laptop, but don't want to buy a wireless modem just for these few days you can buy a 10day unlimited prepaid dialup account with Chilli Internet from Dick Smith Electronics or Tandy stores for only $8.80.

When you check into your room you need ask the nurse to call engineering and bring you up a cable to allow you to have your phone and laptop plugged in at the same time (or just bring a modular double adaptor for the phone socket).

The phone system at the mount is a little archaic, you can make regular calls direct from your room but cannot call any 016 numbers. All you need to do is ask the reception (dial 0) for an outside line for you laptop they will then give you a line and you will hear a dial tone. Then press dial on the laptop and you should be connected.

Hope this helps someone.

Peter.

you are best off taking a padlock with numbers to open it, not a key and keep any valuables locked in your bag/suitcase all the time. Some of you have lots of expensive stuff on your lists and hospitals don't cover them if they get stolen and thefts happen in all hospitals, including private ones!

The key is not practical because you either have to carry it everywhere when you leave your room, even if it's for a minute-don't risk it- or if you leave it on the table you may as well leave your stuff out.

Limit your cash, you don't need hundreds of dollars in bed, unless of course...lets not go there, I'll leave it to your imagination.

Oh, and don't forget the chochlates for the nurses!!
