My bristlenoses all died. I had them for many years, they are so cute and full of character and very shy too. That spotty one is a very handsome fellow, I have never seen that particular variety of bristlenose in real life, just the regular bristlenoses, still handsome.

That bristlenose is a fine handsome fellow. Mine aren't nearly so attractive. Confused

PostSubject: boyfriends   13/04/10, 12:34 am

I have had boyfriends over the years, but as I stacked on the weight and felt worse and worse about myself, the relationship would suffer because I would be pulling back. Also never believed they could care for me when I didn't care for me. Viscious circle.
I know some guys say they like 'big' women, but I don't think they like 'em my size of big!
So I will wait.
But .... at the same time I think that somewhere what would eat away at me would be, should I find a man (especially one that I already knew that may not have made a move) - "so he doesn't like me for WHO I am, but what I look like".... I have always thought that to be a devastating conundrum. But, then again, I'm full of it...
Bristlenose
I shall have to find a pic of a bristlenose to put in my signature!

PostSubject: Re: SNORING :(   12/04/10, 11:46 pm

I completely understand where you're coming from. I've been with hubby since I was 17 (I'm 29 now) and it's something that was minor at first (when I was a relatively healthy weight) and it's just got worse over the years as the kilos stacked on. So, yeah, it is something you get used to....kind of....but the mouth guard and the ear plugs and all the other problems on occasion when neither of them work aren't really conducive to a harmonious relationship.

My sister feels the same way as you do and, if I wasn't in a relationship, I think I'd feel exactly the same. My sister has never had a fella as weight has been a problem most of her life. It's hard to think you could be attractive to someone else when you don't feel attractive to yourself. Actually even in my relationship I often wonder how my husband can still wolf whistle at me and find me attractive or anything when I feel so....yuck (for lack of a better word)

But soon you'll feel great, your reflection in the mirror will give you confidence and you can go out and just have fun. Plus - if the snoring stops - no more sore throat in the morning :)

PostSubject: chainsaw massacre   12/04/10, 11:39 pm

Chainsaw or sleeping like a bear or like a train in a tunnel - it's all shite! I am waiting for it all to disappear from my life. I am feeling very confident that it will.
I was divorced some 8 years ago and no boyfriend since then. I wouldn't dream of making myself open to a relationship at my current weight. Some would not agree, but that's me. If I don't like how I look, I would feel bad to let anyone into my life when I didn't feel right. So one of those yuk factors is snoring. Imagine sleeping next to a new guy in my life and he has to be inflicted with that. It is not confidence-inducing for me. So I will wait till I don't snore and I look 'normal' again before I have any confidence with men again!
Snoring is so unromantic. It's ok if it develops over time when you're with the same guy, you all get used to it - Stockholm syndrome I guess! but not good for new relationships I believe.

Hahah purring helps me get to sleep (one of our cats sleeps between our pillows and purrs me to sleep every night). You're right - it's infinitely cuter than a chainsaw (which is how mine has been described).

PostSubject: snoring solutions   12/04/10, 11:25 pm

yes, Monir, we WILL find out very soon. When I was 21 and ONLY about 20 kgs overweight, my flatmates told me that I purred in my sleep. They thought it was cute. That soon developed into snoring and was no longer cute. I hope I get back to purring soon.

PostSubject: Re: SNORING :(   12/04/10, 10:14 pm

I snore quite badly too, it's actually caused quite a bit of...er...marital discord. So I got a mouth guard thingie (RIPsnore) and it did wonders. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's saved hubby and I from having separate bedrooms.

Hopefully the surgery/weight loss helps me not need the bloody thing in my mouth every night.

Bristlenose - I guess we'll both find out soon enough :)

PostSubject: Ceasing snoring - another sleeve benefit   12/04/10, 06:46 pm

Oh thanks everyone - lots of positive answers. I imagined that it would help, but no evidence, so not sure. So now I am looking forward to be socially acceptable at night as well as in the day. What a boon!
I have also been descibed as 'sleeping like a bear' by my ex-husband. Nothing against bears, I kinda like 'em, but I don't want to be thought of as having any bear-like qualities anymore!

I had Sleep Aponea and used CPAP for a fair while. After Surgery and losing almost 60kg my wife tells me I dont even snore at all now - she said she has even checked me in my sleep to make sure I wasnt dead I am that quiet. The CPAP stopped working properly (lots of leaking) after losing about 30kg and then the snoring stopped after about 40kg.

May not work for everyone but my Wife is HHappy (with two capital H's)

while I was in hopsital for my sleeve they noticed that I would stop breathing briefly so they kept me in 1 extra night to do a sleep test. I did it and they said if I keep on losing weight it will not be a problem.

PostSubject: Re: SNORING :(   12/04/10, 01:14 pm

Hello,

I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea over eight years ago (I probably had it for much longer but didn't believe my hubbys complaints). According to my sleep Dr that meant that my snoring was on a par with a train coming through a tunnel. I used my CPAP machine every night since then until early this year. I still have it by the bed just in case but, apart from a few days when I had a cold, have hardly needed it. Apparently (I'm asleep so don't notice) my snoring is quiet now and reasonably rare.

Cheers - Carrie

Hi,
I asked Jaye to check me out like I said I would.

She said that it was creepy and wouldn't do it LOL

However as I said to you I am certain that I don't snore any more, might set up a tape to check.

Hugs Gail

My husband used to tell me (with love of course) that I snored "like a bear" before the op (I was 110 - 120 for the past 10 yrs). I asked him recently if it had improved & he said yep I hardly ever snore & its not as bad.

Ok! Thats another advantage of the sleeve (well not for me personally cuz I'm asleep but I did worry about falling asleep on a plane & embarrasing myself cuz sometimes I'd wake up mid-snore & it sounded kinda bad lol...)

Yep - it's good news. SNORING IS GREATLY REDUCED WHEN YOU LOSE WEIGHT. I don't do it any more according to hubby. Just add it to the list of benefits :-)

Oh the joys of being told you snore! LOL.

I didn't believe my daughters when they told me so my daughter's b'friend video'd me one night. Lucky I love the kid.

I recently went on a girls shopping trip & had to buy my roomie earplugs. Initially I didn't believe her when she said she hadn't slept all night because of my snoring. She looked pretty haggard tho. Oh the embarressment.

I didn't snore til I put on weight & am hoping it'll stop when the weight goes. So I'm another one keen to hear if weight loss helps.

PostSubject: SNORING :(   12/04/10, 01:12 am

I snore, my daughter is always complaining about it.
My question is: have sleevers noticed that after losing a large amount of weight
reduce or eliminate snoring?
(I'm crossing my fingers here)
Has anyone noticed this (or perhaps their spouse)?
thanks
