My wife and I are looking at doing it together, we are hoping we will support each other.  Not planning on telling any other friends or family, as they are only too quick to judge, and will try to talk us out of it, or tell us to exercise and eat less.
Good luck to both of you, I'm sure you will both do great.

We are both on a low carb diet as it is.
I'm gluten intolerant so I don't eat many carbs at all and my wife has pcos so she also is low carb. We eat healthy but the weight just doesn't go. We mainly drink water. Not much alcohol and none smokers

PostSubject: Hello! and welcome!   Mon 06 Feb 2017, 10:00 am

Hi Gav and Kat!

Apologies for the very delayed return post.  Unfortunately, over the last month. this website has been plagued by pesky spammers, which has been very off-putting.  So we are all being a bit cautious.

Welcome (and I am not a moderator, nor an Administrator!) to this site :)
I can say that we can ALL relate to what you posted i.e. "We are both looking to get gastric sleeve done. Both overweight with other medical problems and no matter what we do we can not loose the weight." (me, personally, been there, done that.)

Can only wish you all the best as you wait out your time with PHI. Incredibly frustrating and demoralising to have to sit back and "twiddle your thumbs".  Could you maybe consider using this time to work on whatever you folks need to do to be in the best place intellectually, emotionally and physically before the time comes for you to have your surgery?   Research and read all you can.  The sleeve is JUST  a tool - it is up to you to use it wisely.  May I please respectfully suggest that you both attend a WLS-savvy dietician (preferably low-carb) in the meantime, and start to put in place interventions e.g. portion control. using small cutlery, chew-chew-chew (20, 20, 20), low-carb etc.  Walk and move together - fantastic that you have each other for support!  (maybe adopt a rescue dog to get you out walking?).  Start a food diary - what you eat/what/ when/ amount/accompanying emotions.  if you 'cheat' - the only people you are cheating are yourself.  Be accountable.  Post-online your weekly progress - the good, the bad, and the ugly.  If you have problems such as emotional eating, you need to get these sorted out first.  Be honest. Maybe see a psychologist to help you work with head problems, to help you identify problems and strategies to work with these problems.    For the sleeve to be 110 % successful, YOU need to recognise that it (the sleeve, band, bypass etc) are just weight loss and maintenance tools, and that YOU need to work with it for your best advantage. No room for complacency, believe me.  There are plenty of folk out there who are "failed banders", "failed sleevers".  The WLS tools did not fail them, they failed the WLS. because they chose to believe that they are special, they do not need to follow the rules, they choose to sabotage their path.  So - your choice.  Wishing you both all the best.
