I haven't done it as I have phi - but plenty have before.

No harm in trying.

Firstly check that you super fund can do an early release, some can't.

You will need to complete an application on the centrelink website.

https://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/early-release-superannuation?utm_id=7

You will need to have your GP and specialist complete a supporting recommendation.

The surgeons quote should have all of your expenses outlined, including follow up care, surgical assistant, dietician (including optifast costs) and psychologist (if needed as part of the care plan). You may have to obtain a seperate quote for the gas man.

Once you have everything submitted the processing takes around 4 weeks. You the. Apply to your super fund with the approval letter for release of the funds.

Good luck.

PostSubject: Just Beginning   Sat 10 Dec 2016, 12:16 am

Hi everyone,

I am just starting this journey, with my initial consultation with the surgeon booked for the end of January.

A little about me: I am a married father of three, live in a small town in Western NSW and work as a Christian Minister. I have struggled with my weight my whole life, and can't really remember a time when I wasn't overweight.

I currently have a BMI of 36.8, along with some of the health issues that can accompany that - blood pressure, cholesterol etc.  I also suffer with a chronic pain condition in my back which is only made worse by my extra kilos.

I have reached a point that I have to act.   I have tried everything else - diet, exercise, medications... and while I might have some success, it is always limited, and it is always temporary.

My concern is that I don't have health insurance - I am hoping to draw on my super, has anyone else here been down that track?

Thanks for listening/reading, and I loo forward to getting to know some of you on this journey.

Daz.
