Hi TamF,

we are only 1 week apart. Yes, the Jordaan team is Fantastic!

I am having a bit of a stall with weight right now.
I'll be patient though .....

Congratulations on your surgery!

Perhaps we can PM each other to have a chat.

Best wishes

Margo

Hi Margo

I don't visit these pages much so have only just seen this.  I was also sleeved by Dr Jordaan on 1 March 2016 - isn't the team just fantastic!  Congrats on doing so well with your weight loss :)

PostSubject: Hi Vanessa   Thu 31 Mar 2016, 2:20 am

Yes, waiting can be a drag.

If not for my thyroid issue, I would have been operated on last August, 2015

However, I am glad that my surgeon and his team were so thorough, and thus found out my auto-immune Graves disease.
This could have been life threatening for the op, so better to wait than really suffer or pass on .....

I read Dr. Nolan's web page and info. Very good.

My surgeon is dr. J. Jordaan in Pindara hospital/specialist suites.
I am very happy with him and his team.
He visited me twice a day during my 3 day hospital stay. One of the nurse's said it was unheard of .....      :)

I could not have the bypass due to my thyroid and medications, hence I had gastric sleeve done.

I think it is good and sensible that you and your hubby will not be operated on at the same time, as support is needed from a healthy person during the initial week or so, after coming home from the hospital.

Yes, there are quite a few tests that need to be done pre op, to ensure no complications or adverse reactions.

Tests will continue post op as well.

Best wishes to you both

Margo

Hi Margo

Congrats on your 8kg loss. I thought I'ld message you on your thread lol.

I won't be having surgery until Feb 2017, such a long way off. But my husband is booked in for August this year, so I thought I'ld better wait for him to recover. Also the surgeons get Christmas off, so I thought I'ld wait until after Christmas, rather than having the operation just before Christmas.

We are using Dr Greg Nolan in Southport. He will be performing a mini gastric bypass on my husband. We haven't yet decided for me. So far we have met him once and decided on the procedure for my DH. It's good that we are early, as he has to have a few tests before he is cleared to go.

I will PM you.

Vanessa

Hi Groovy,

It is a relief to hear that despite the thyroid issues, weight loss keeps happening.
Congratulations on your successful result!

Yes, main forums are busier, thank you for reminding me of this.

You know, when I first wrote this post, I only lost 3 kgs post op.

Today it is 8 kgs, so it is starting to move, yay!

I needed to hear re plateau.

Thank you   :)

Welcome, Krakow!

You'll probably get more response from the main forums rather than here, nobody seems to visit these much.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (Hashimotos) in November last year. So far it hasn't hindered my weight loss post sleeve, having lost 22kg since mid December. My endocrinologist said the thyroid issues are only responsible for about 10kg of my weight gain, so not that much. What I was putting in my mouth was much more important. You're only a few weeks out so you probably went through the usual post op plateau, unfortunately. It will move again, trust me.

Once again, welcome!

Hi Everyone,

Margo here, from Gold Coast.

I had my Gastric Sleeve op on 8th March 2016.
So, I am 3 weeks post op currently.

Bit of Bio:

All my life I was very Slim.
First trouble with weight started during my menopause. Gained about 15 kgs, year 2007
Went on Cohen's Lifestyle Diet, shook all the excess weight in 3 months.
Back to 60 kg.

I am in my late fifties now.
In 2014 I noticed my weight increasing, and I had diabolical sweet cravings.
Forward to May 2015, weight gain of 30 kgs. Had apt for Gastric Sleeve.
All up I was 90 kgs, and very unhappy and scared.

Had all the tests done, and I was diagnosed with Graves Disease (Hyperthyroid).
Consequently my op had to be put on hold, until Thyroid issues got sorted out.
My surgeon would not operate due to potential Thyroid Storm.

This created 9 month delay.
Had to have Radioactive Iodine treatment, as anti thyroid meds were taking too long.

I officially became Hypothyroid last December 2015
Started Thyroxine January 2016.

I managed to pile on another 10 kgs!
I was 100-101 kg pre op.

Today, I am in my 3rd week post op, been on purees for a week.
I only lost about 3kgs!

I wonder if there are any Thyroid members here?

I know that thyroid issues can interfere and slow down the weight loss.

Today I feel very discouraged.
I know it is still very early stage for me.

Just hit one of those down in the dumps stage, I was warned about.

Thank you for reading
