Thanks for the reply Leighsa!
That is the sort of info iv been looking to find out.
Do you make the date for the surgery on the first consult?
If not, when will you be able to book in a date for the surgery?
How many times did you have to see Dr Nottle before the surgery/surgery date was decided?
Not long until your surgery! are you getting nervous?
Is there anything you have/had to do prior to the surgery?

Hi memphis pearl!
How exciting is it all! i hate the wait as well, seems like it is going to take forever until its all finally done. i have found that this forum has answered pretty much every question i have had about the surgery and everything involved.
Goodluck.

Welcome Memphis Pearl!

I know it seems a long time (I had to wait 5 months for my first consult with Darrin, so I understand!) but it will be SO worth the wait! Darrin is just gorgeous. Very caring and lovely. I was sleeved by him in February and so far have had no complications. I've lost over 20kg so far.

Use the time to get yourself ready - research, ask questions etc. It'll go quicker than you think!

Hi There,

My name is Leighsa and I am also from Geelong.  I am getting sleeves by Dr Nottle on the 13th May and am very excited.  Before the operation I had to see a respiratory specialist ($250-$350), attend a dietician session ($200) and see a psychologist ($180).  I am self funded so have had to pay the rest from my super.

Any questions let me know.

His team are great and you will get a lot of information given to you at your first appointment which will outline costs etc and what you need to do before your op, his team is really great and very helpful.

I have top hospital cover with no excess, so I didn't pay a cent for the hospital.

I paid $3500 out of pocket to Darrin, $1200 for the anaesthetist  and that was it. My blood tests and ECG were bulk billed. The dietitian was free prior to surgery and in hospital but once I saw her post op there was a small fee (I think it's about $40 per visit.)

I had some pharmacy costs when I was discharged - less than $50.

I also had to pay for two visits to Darrin pre op - about $200 all up.

So all up it's cost me about $5000. Costs do vary quite a lot between clinics and doctors.

I have my first consultation with Peter in June, if im not happy with him then Darrin i will look into definitely! (:
i have to wait until March 2017 until i can actually have the surgery because i have to wait out the waiting period on my private health insurance but i thought it would be a good idea to get the ball rolling by seeing Peter and i can go from there depending on what he says.
If you don't mind me asking, how much was your total out of pocket expenses and what did you need to pay for and when?
Thankyou so much for helping me!

Peter Nottle was my doctor (for a different issue) years ago when I lived in Werribee and I was happy with him then. I  thought about going to him but when I first started looking at the sleeve he was still recommending the band and I knew that wasn't for me. There is a Geelong FB group for sleevers and a few people there have gone to him and liked him, so I'm sure you're in good hands. Still, I can't recommend Darrin highly enough - he is the nicest, most caring doctor I've ever encountered! Not trying to change your mind, because Dr Nottle is good too, but if you were unsure I'd definitely book a consult with Darrin. If you're totally happy then forget I said anything!

I saw Darrin in late November (in fact the last day of November) and was sleeved on Feb 16, so six weeks! I didn't have to do the apnoea test but others who have been to him did have to - it depends on your individual circumstances (BMI, health status) I guess. It took me ages to get my initial appointment with Darrin but once I did it all happened pretty quickly. I had to have blood tests and an ECG, plus a consult with the admissions counsellor from SJOG.

I'm almost seven weeks out now and doing really, really well. I recovered very quickly, had no complications and haven't regretted my decision for one minute!

Hey and Thankyou Lisa.

i grew up in ocean grove my whole life and only just moved out of home! ahaha.
I did look into Darrin but i was recommended to Peter Nottle by alot of clients from my work, im pretty happy with my choice.
How long did it take you to get your surgery date after your first consultation with Darrin?
Did you also have to do a sleep apnea test?
Sorry in advance for all the questions. I like to know eeeeeverything!
How is your journey going since you had the surgery?
Thank you again.

Hi Ashley and welcome!

I'm from Ocean Grove, so near you, but I went to Darrin Goodall-Wilson (who I can't recommend highly enough!)

A couple of weeks before my surgery I had a full set of blood tests and an ECG. I also had to see the dietitian at SJOG and an admissions counsellor. I saw Darrin twice before my surgery. My blood tests and ECG were bulk billed. The dietitian and nurse counsellor were also free. I did have to pay a consulting fee for my visits with Darrin though.

Good luck to you on your journey!

PostSubject: Newbie from Geelong!   Mon 28 Mar 2016, 12:21 am

Hi there!
My name is Ashley, i am 22 from Geelong and have just started my journey for gastric sleeve surgery.
I started my private health insurance with Latrobe heath last month so i am just waiting out the pre exsisting condition waiting time (12 months)
I have a consultation with Peter Nottle on June 15th and hopefully we can make a surgery date for the day after my waiting time is up!
This is all so new to me and i am just curious as to what happens before the surgery as in tests that need to be done? appointments? cost of those tests?
I would love to hear back from anyone regarding any of my questions because i have a lot to ask before my consultation with Peter.
Thaaanks (: (: (:
