Oh yes, Optifast 2 weeks pre op and due to the weight I am at, I guess the bonus is that i get 3 shakes and a minimum of 2 cups of veg and 100g lean protein.

Yeah, low carb is the go these days. Mine is fairly well controlled just occasional flairs which I can tell due to the massive thirst that kicks in so I am looking forward to surgery if only because it should knock that on its head :D

I have read the buggery out of this site! So much info, its been a great resource!

Welcome to this forum Eshalia :)

Seriously, what with Christmas and all that sort of stuff, Jan 28th will be here before you know it.
There are a lot of resources for you to read, read, read in the meantime; and closer to the time you'll be wanting to prepare and pack your bag!!!

I am guessing that they will be wanting you to Optifast pre-op???

Just for interest, it appears that low carbohydrate diets are now the management of choice for T2 Diabetics.  I have put some info in the "Resources" section (and in fact there is some more I haven't put in.)  Worthwhile giving a very low-carb diet a go for a while?

All the best,
:)

Hello Everyone!

Well I started this journey about 18 months ago with my Dr referring me to Joondalup for the public wait list for WLS. This was due to a type 2 diabetes diagnosis and me finally having enough of being fat, sore and sweaty.
Metformin was prescribed and whilst it works i have slowly but surely gained about 20 odd kilos on it. I received my first appointment date about 12 months after that. Closer to the date of the appointment I called to get a rundown on the process only to find out that I would be waiting possibly about 18 months before even a look at a surgery date. So I thought bugger it and have now gone the self funded route with my super.
Just recently some nice osteoarthritis kicked in, sleep apnoea is getting worse and I felt/feel horrific about my whole physical self.
Having had friends use Western Surgical at Hollywood Hospital in Perth I booked in to see Dr Sue Taylor. I love her. She is very straight forward and full of information. So far I have had my initial consult to meet and get the blood work order. This has been completed with only low vitamin d and the usual slight fatty liver.
I had my next plethora of appointments with the GP, Dietician, Psych all of which went well barring my BP, as it decided i was nervous and should have a stroke. GP almost sent me to the ED but we got it down to normal after a wee lie down. I then had my next appointment with my surgeon and it was confirmed that I was good to book in. Sadly as they have become a little popular the first appointment was Jan 28th after my surgeon comes back form holidays.
So now the count down is on. I need this to go faster as the side effects of the various medications and sleep apnoea are affecting work (next to no leave left)
I hate myself for the weight gain, I hate that i got this fat (I am 170 plus) BMI is 65. I think i should actually be dead.... GAH!
