thank you QuirkyQuaintrelle, some posts have quoted $26 000. The doctor suggested it may be a little higher depending on assistant and anaesthetist but not too much more. I am in Qld, so not sure if that makes a difference. I am ringing tomorrow and booking a date!

thank you very much everyone. It is great to read comments that are really being reflected in my own head! I am about to embark on starting to complete paperwork, gathering quotes etc. One thing which does have me a little confused, is how much the pricing varies. My surgeon has quoted approx. $7500, does this sound right?

Hello and welcome leal3a!

I remember when I was still in the decision making phase of this process and weighing up all the pros and cons. It's major surgery and their are risks involved. I'm not trying to put you off but this shouldn't be entered into lightly. I came to a point where I thought the risks of not having the surgery outweighed having it so I decided to move ahead with it and I've been blessed with a pretty cruisey ride! It's been life changing for me and I'm thrilled with the results.

I also used my super and my only advice is to follow their checklist. Make sure you have all your forms/quotes/doctor's letters in order and that you've signed where applicable (I forgot to sign my form and it delayed things!).

Best of luck on your journey and remember this forum is a fantastic resource for finding info, asking questions or just a shoulder to cry on :-)

All the best with your decision leal3a!

I have to say, I had never considered the band or the bypass - both were a definite "NO!"  but when I read about the sleeve in January, I thought this is the surgery for me and my weight problem! I had the surgery at the end of March this year (yep, I didn't waste any time!) and feel fantastic. Almost 24 kg down and my life is completely back to normal - I can tolerate all food and drink - just in reduced amounts - which is exactly what I wanted.

I accessed my super too - no hassles at all - as long as you have all the quotes and paperwork there shouldn't be an issue!

Good luck with your decision!

Welcome Leal3a, it's certainly a life changing decision, all you can do is research and arm yourself with as much information as possible. Best of luck on your journey xx

kiss Hello, today is my first post. Well two weeks ago, I spoke to my doctor regarding weight loss. I have struggled my whole life. He said "have you ever thought of surgery". Hell no! Slowly I started thinking, could this be my answer, could this stop a life time of heart ache and struggles? So, I booked an appointment with the specialist, which I had on Friday, so now armed with all my paperwork, I am in the process of making an informed decision, but must say after reading through this site, I am leaning heavily towards a strong YES!  So my next step is to get quotes, complete paperwork so I can access my super. Has anyone else done this? If so, are there any tips to avoid the pitfalls. Lastly I just want to say thank you to each and everyone of you who have bravely shared their stories and views, it has certainly helped me xoxo
