Good news Trish, I think it is a wise move. Remember that whatever weight you can lose in the 12 month wait, is less to lose after the surgery.

Thanks everyone
Seems the journey has already taken a little turn. After lots of discussion with family I have decided that getting PHI is the best way to go. So now I have the 12month wait ahead of me. I have decided to stick to OptiFast for breaky, lunch and snacking and have a "healthy" dinner. But still sneak a treat or 2 every once in a blue moon :)
See how I go I guess.
Have an appointment with the dietitian next week so hopefully I have already lost so excess and she can help me continue better.

Thanks Wendy.
I never really thought about surgery as an option, thank goodness for the internet, so much information :)

My surgeon wants me down by 40kg before the op so he was saying 3 months on OptiFast. Wont at all be fun, but each day seems to be getting easier, just hate the soups, like really really hate them lol

I think the Free Vegies will be my savior as I have always loved my vegs.

Thank you for the encouragement. :D

Hi Trish,

Welcome to the site and congratulations on your decision to have your surgery.  It will be life changing in so many positive ways! Whilst the Optifast is challenging at first, you do get used to it but as you sound like you will be doing it for an extended period of time, I'm sure you will need to develop a strong will and a good repertoire of "free veg" recipes and snack ideas to help you through.  You can do it though :)

Best wishes,

Hello to you all out there.
This is my first post after coming across this site and I am really excited have found it.
I finally got off my butt after procrastinating over surgery for a long long time.
I saw a specialist a week and a half a go and then the dietitian on yesterday who started me on OptiFast straight away.
I am a 34 year old Mum from Melbourne. I am just under 6ft tall and have always remembered being big. When I sore the Doctor he took my weight, which I hadn't done in years and I come in at 242kg.
He wants me down by at least 40kg within 3 months ready for surgery. Like I am sure all of you out there, normal dieting, fad diets and plans just never worked for me, mentally, or physically. So I am hoping this is going to be the answer. I think I am good at motivating myself, but I guess we will see. This forum I think is going to be a big help also.
So Hello to everyone out there and I look forward to reading more posts and information as I start my journey.
