When I met with the nurse, she made a comment that has kind of stuck with me. The pleasures of eating are all from the neck up - sight, smell, taste and texture, and everything after that isn't so great like bloating etc. so I guess if I can stop believing that I NEED this food for whatever reason, and simply enjoy it for what it is, regardless of quantity, I may be able to break that habit. Food for thought (no pun intended!)

The idea (well for me anyway) is not to let go completely of what you like, just to be able to eat a whole lot less of it, eat normally and not feel like im on a forever diet.

If I want a bite of pizza so be it, currently I can eat a large to myself, but half a slice after the surgery? if thats what I feel like having today, thats what Im going to have.

This is not to say that I will get crap food everyday and pat myself on the back because I can only eat three bites, not at all, but if you deny yourself everything you ever enjoy you will feel like youre a prisoner and wont be able to move forward with a normal life. This is what the surgery will be for me, I just want to be normal.

Hi Guys,
My name's Rowena and i'm looking at having the gastric sleeve surgery in the coming months. I met the bariatric specialist yesterday and went through the options and i'm meeting with the surgeon in 3 weeks. Does anyone have any advice on letting go of the food that you're used to? I know i need to give up the foods i currently eat which is why i'm currently in this position, but it scares me?
Rowena
