I am starting the track towards a healthier me.
I have my first appointment with the surgeon Dr Durmush (Liverpool & Campbelltown) on 15 July.
I am probably one of the last people you would expect to see here - I have a BMI of 31. Even to me this seems extreem to be here, but this isn't my main problem.
I have never had a weight issue in my life. Even throughout 2 pregnancies I only weighed 60kg.
But then my life changed in 2009 after treating a patient and I caught their infection which led to a heart condition and life-long arrhythmia.I take medication to keep my heart rate low everyday too.
Gone instantly was dancing, tennis and running. To this day I am not able to exercise, except walking.
Hence this led to the weight increase. I went from being a size 8 to a size 16 very quickly as I had to stop all exercise and activity.
Now due to a life as a paramedic (and no doubt the extra weight!) I have arthritis in my lower spine. Not really bad, but it has led me to make this decision to get the weight off before it becomes any worse.
No duromine - heart condition
No diet & exercise - can't exercise
My cardiologist and GP recommend VSG.
This story is not about getting pity or sympathy, but just to explain why I am here.I am grateful everyday that I am here to watch my kids grow up.
I am hoping that this surgery will help in what will be a life-long struggle for me.
I look forward to all your words of wisdom!
Thanks for your time.
