PostSubject: Band vs Sleeve   09/04/10, 12:18 am

I was also considering the gastric banding, but as said: the sleeve is much less hassle!

You have to be clear about only one thing:
Any change that comes with the sleeve is PERMANENT. No binge eating or drinking possible, for the rest of your life. Living a healthy and LONG life is well worth it.

PostSubject: Sleeve V Band   31/03/10, 06:08 pm

Hi Jo

Just had the sleeve on Saturday 27th March, I feel fine no stomach pain whatsoever, I have had trapped wind/indgiestion in my chest but that's about it. I did consider the band but when I read about the sleeve I decided it would be a lot less hassle than the band. With the band you have to keep going for refills. There are no issues re taking supplements as there are with a bypass and you can eat what you want but much smaller amounts. I was on the NHS waiting list for a year and recently received a letter from the PCT saying I no longer fitted the criteria. Apparently they are now only considering people in the area I live in with a BMI of 55+. Fed up with waiting and having Diabetes type 2 I opted to pay privately, well worth it, I have dropped from 16st 9lbs to 15st 9 (that includes the pre op diet and since coming home from hospital, I feel healthier already. Good luck with your decision.

Jackie

PostSubject: Sleeve V's Band????   28/09/09, 11:05 pm

Hi there everyone.

I'm in the research stage of WLS I was initially considering the Gastric Band and have spoken to a couple of people who have had a band and and told me some of the pro's ad con's. I recently spoke to a lady and the support group I have to go to to get funding for the surgery on the NHS and she informed me about the sleeve, and that the consultant I have been referred to does prefer people to have the sleeve, so hence doing research, I want to go to my 1st appointment with open eyes (so to speak) so I can get on the waiting list as soon as possible.

So here we go, I would like any info on the sleeve that you can give me that will help me decide on which surgery to have. Has anybody had the band and then the sleeve? Is there any foods you have to avoid with the sleeve like you do with the band? Do you have to take vitamin supplements? Does anyone wish that they had tried a less invasive procedure?

Sorry for asking so many questions in my 1st post, thanks in advance

Jo.
