Australian insurance advice required

Hi I have a few questions for Australians who have used insurance cover for their surgery.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has gone down this path.
I currently have some hospital coverage but I would like to minimize the cost if at all possible.

Which insurance companies currently cover VSGs in Australia? What is the best plan to take out?
Are there any particular insurance companies to stay away from?

I've found it a bit daunting reading their websites which seem to omit the fine print. Any help appreciated.

I have top cover with HBA and they paid all the hospital costs plus the doctor gap.

They definitely covered it.

I have fairly top cover with NIB I was about $7000 out of pocket, + the $400 excess
