| I'm not putting it off for fun (well I sort of am, but not for sh*ts and giggles). I would get it done tomorrow given the chance. Its just at the worst possible time of the year.
As I said earlier, I'm angry at myself for taking so long to see someone about the procedure.
Another month or so wait isn't going to make a massive difference in the long run. Anyway, I will see what dates the Doctor has available, it may turn out that I have to wait a month or two anyway if there is a large list. |

| Sorry Couchsurfer but I agree with Nicole. There will always be reason to put off the surgery due to social issues and every month something will come up to give you another reason to put it off. We all love food and that's the reason we have put on the weight and have struggled all our lives and also the reason we have had the surgery. So I say go ahead and have the op. It doesn't mean you will be giving up your life just means that you will have to learn to adjust to eating smaller portions and becoming the person you really want to be. Oh by the way, welcome to the forum. steph _________________ Sleeved 3rd July, 2008

I know it seems like I am putting my social life before health, I guess its sort of true. Although right now I don't really have any MAJOR health problems that need immediate attention. Maybe I need to HTFU and just do it regardless of what I have planned.
Problem is I enjoy things too much, food, drink, parties, pub. I'm afraid of missing out on life.
But if I can get my weigh under control I guess I will get to enjoy things 100x more. |

| Thanks for the input everyone.
Putting it off until March is a nice idea...BUT I have plans to attend V Festival (music festival) on the 29th of March. I think I will ask the Doc about what he thinks is best, if I can get it done early enough in Feb then I will do it, if not I will try for early March instead.
I'm angry at myself for putting off this decision for so long. |

| Yes, I would wait till March. Make your goal between now and then just to maintain your weight. Try not to put anymore on over the party days and then focus on the surgery when all is over. But, you need to set a date because life is full of reasons to put it off. So, do that at your appointment and then if any other event comes up, you'll have to just suck it up and you know, it's not that hard. Some of us been optifasting over the xmas break and tonight, New years Eve, I gave up plans because I didn't need temptation. I also am bypassing my birthday on 3rd january. I can have another next year!
Enjoy yourself and still check in but do what YOU want to do, not what we say. You know you best.
Happy New year
PS: I like your post, it just added to my procrastination time for avoiding kitchen duties!! |

| I agree with everyone else, in the grand scheme of things waiting an extra month (if you are prepared to) isnt such a big deal. Go out and spend time with your mates, and enjoy it while you can. Have your surgery in March, and then stuck into developing the new and improved you. |

put it off dude. go and run amok with the boys, cos you're gonna be off the p*ss for awhile post surgery. the bubbles will cause havoc with your new tummy. and it doesn't look attractive when beer shoots out of your nose.
flip side, half a teds 4 or 5 months in will get you slaughtered. you'll be such an easy target for any hens party that crosses your path. us women can smell out the vulnerable ones in the herd... when we hunt in a pack, our powers increase exponentially you're gonna be a complete 2 stubby screamer!
work out when the last day of p*ssy fun is then plan 2 weeks of opti or whatever your surgeon asks you to do then go hard on the opti and straight in for the chop too easy _________________ Sleeved: 11 November 2008 Operation weight: 103kg Current Weight: 49kg Goal Weight: 50kg Height: 150cm Surgeon: Mr Hairul Ahmad SJOG Murdoch Perth |

| set your surgery for early March and just enjoy yourself for Febuary. You would be well enough a coupel of weeks later to enjoy the company and have a bailies or tow but beer would be a problem for most for a few months because oh the foam. My other half was sipping them slowely about 4 months out now a year out they go down just fine and have for months. The first 3 - 6 months can be a bit of a drag while your tummy settels into its new life when it comes to anything fizzy beyond a sip or two. He stuck to a nip of bailies during that time if he wanted a tiple :) Oh and the odd treat of a bailies chocolate.
You are making the right choice for you life but nobody is judgingyou for making your plans fit around your life by a few weeks to have one last blow out with your mates. If your birthday had been a few months after surgery we would have all said you would have had no problems at all :) I promise life doesnt get back to normal it gets BETTER :) I party 1000 times more now than I did before surgery hehehehe

| hi couchsurfer, congrats on making this important decision, i found it a huge relief after doing all the research to finally decide on the sleeve. If I was you I would schedule the op. for March after all your partying !! You may feel like going out a couple of weeks post op. but if you do you will not be drinking alcohol or eating food and you may feel really tired like alot of us did. I think its best to really focus on YOU after the op. for at lest the first month, there are a lot fo changes and just getting in the water each day takes commitment, let alone if you feel nausea etc...A few weeks in your life isn't going to make much difference. | Hi Couchsurfer,
Great name !!
Truth of the matter is, a month one way or the other isn't really going to make much difference in the grand scheme of things... I've been waiting 3 years! It only almost killed me, lol!... Go have your birthday, go out with your mate on his, go get leggless with your returning friend and get it done after that. You'll be happier going into it knowing you've had your 'last supper' ( ? last bender ? heheheh!!) sort of thing. I doubt you'd be up to that kind of intense celebrating so soon after any op, even if you do lay off the grog :)
Good luck with it all, no matter what you decide ~ |

| Hey Couchsurfer- Welcome to the group.
It's entirely your decision about when to have the op.
I would say if you want to have a big birthday bash and get blotto and eat curry, pizza or whatever, then wait until March for the surgery. You're turning 26, and that's what 26 year old guys do on their birthdays right?
On the other hand as Redkat says, there will be lots more birthdays after that- and you can make them as messy as you like!
Either way, I know you will make the right decision for you. Whichever way you go, once you decide, don't regret your decision and make the most of it.
Again welcome! _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/w5m0oJz/] Pre-op Consult Nov 2008, 124kg Surgery Date: 22nd Jan 2009, 112kg |

| hey couchsurfer i was sleeved on 13th nov this year, so i'm about 7 weeks post op? i really don't count the weeks too much! everyone is very different, and the way they cope with the surgery is different, but for me, i had very little pain, in fact i came off the pain meds after the first 24 hours, left hospital 24 hours after that and really havent looked back since. i had a drink 4 weeks post op, but i'm not much of a drinker anyways...it could well be that you won't want to drink after the op too much, your stomach certainly won't be able to hold what it used to anyway. again speaking for myself, i was always putting things off, putting diets off, putting going out off, there was always a good reason not to do something...if you're over-weight and need this surgery, get it done as soon as you can! it is hard not eating like you used to, i miss having the huge amounts..not because i'm hungry, just because it filled a gap in my life. you're so young, there will be many parties, many drunken moments to enjoy in the future, and to top it all you'll be slim and healthy...does it get better than that? lol hope you enjoy your weight loss journey when it starts...and good luck...kat |

| Hi,
I was originally interested in the Lapband procedure, but after speaking to my Doc and researching I think the sleeve is MUCH better option for a younger guy like me. I am 25 years old, 183cm and currently weigh 151kgs.
I have gone through the nutritionist, psych and excercise people, and have an appt early next year with the cardioligist. My final appt with the Doc is 20th Jan where I will get the date for the op.
The problem is in Feb I have my Bday, my best mates Bday and a good mate returning from the UK after a year, all happening on the 28th of Feb.
I'm worried if I have the procedure done in mid Feb then I won't be up to going out and celebrating with my mates.
How long did it take you before you felt good enough to go out and move around?
Also will I be able to have a bday beer or two after only a few weeks post op? (I will ask the Doc this as well, but I would be good to know people own experience)
I want to get this down ASAP, so sick of life at this weight. |
