| Hi Bubbly
Good for you hun. As long as you're happy. I might be joining you in 2011 never know hehehe. I have a different path in getting there and like you will make a decision once I've seen a specialist and had my many questions answered. This forum has been informative in reading peoples experiences.
Good luck and all the best in your journey. |

| hi shesha agreed....and after much reading up and feedback (+ and -) i'm happy with what i've decided. just too many things that can go wrong and i'm not brave enough to chance it, just to see how it goes. i'll organise insurance (tough financial diet coming up) and patiently wait for the sleeve.....another 12mths will breeze past.
cheers bubbly :-) _________________ Highest weight: 140kg Current weight - 27.02.10: 128kg Future surgery: sleeve Surgery date: mid 2011, when hospital insurance kicks in :-)

| I also had a lap band (2 actually, first one slipped) did nothing but vomit and get sicker and eventually heavier during the 6 years that I had it in, finally got it out in August last year and was sleeved in November and havent regretted it for a second, lost 23kgs in 3 mths health has greatly improved and I feel great. The sleeve is the best thing I have ever done for myself!

| Hi Bubbly,
Everyone is going to have something to say about the band. There are positive and negative experiences all round. Don't let peoples negative experiences get in the way of what you want. Ultimately its your decision and you have to be happy with your decision at the end of the day.
Good luck with your decision. |

| Oh Karlin, you do have my experience down pat...puree and mash, eating out and things getting stuck and worse, many times in the bathroom throwing up, nightmare. So wish I had been a lapband success story. I really don't know why it works for some and not for others, but not a high chance lottery. _________________

| Hi I am getting my band out in two weeks. I have had nothing but trouble with the band and it has been absolutely awful. Yes it will help you lose weight if you plan on eating nothing and are happy to eat liquids, puree and mash. Yes to not being able to eat out in case you vomit or something gets stuck.
I am not the only one who has regretted getting their lapband. Two other ladies at my workplace also got the band put in. They too have put back on their weight and made to feel like total losers for it not working. One of my other friends had hers replaced three times and now has the gastric bypass done.
Before getting the lapband done please read about all the lapband failures and the damage the lapband can do to your body. If you decide to go ahead I wish you all the best and hope the band is kinder to you than it was to me.
cheers,
Karen |

| "Don't do it" - this is what I would like to say to anyone who plans on having a band. I haven't heard anything good about it. I love my sleeve and would recommend it to anyone. | Hi BubblyBrunette, You're in good hands with Dr. Dolan. I'm actually getting rebanded mid March as I've had a leak in mine and have been trying to sort it out since October of last year. They replaced the port 6 weeks ago thinking the leak was from there, but I went for a follow up appointment this week and I still have a leak as the doctor tried to unfill my band and found a few mls missing. So I'm going back in to have my band replaced complete. No out of pocket thank god. I'm hanging on to the band until I get a bit more research done about the sleeve. Until then I will use what I have to try to get more weight off and then look at switching to the sleeve. Just need to get an appointment with Mr. Thomas first lol who's booked up until May sheesh! All the best with your procedure. You will be fine. Have some chewable degas tablets as they help. Try and relax when you go in and have a positive mind Shesha |

| Hiya's
Finally found a post about banding done by Kevin Dolan....thanks to Shesha's reply :-) Like your niece Sue, I can't fund WLS. By chance I discovered Mr Dolan was doing public patients. Hope everything is going sooper for her :-)
I'm getting banded on May 17th by Mr Dolan and have all the nail-biting worries of surgery and banding. This forum has been great! Even more so now that I've found a positive post about my surgeon....always comforting.
Denise :-) |

| Hi Sue, Good luck to your niece in having the band done. Dr. Dolan is one of the best surgeons in Perth for the band. I was banded over 4 years ago but by Dr. Watson. My Aunty was done by Dr. Dolan. Ummm your niece might experience shoulder tip pain after surgery because of them blowing up her tummy I would recommend getting some DeGas chewable tablets from the chemist before checking into the hospital. She won't be allowed anything solid hence chewables are the best option as they dissolve.
I didn't really have any complications post op for my band and she's in good hands so she will be fine. I'm now researching the sleeve though because the band isn't doing much for me.
Good luck to her!!
